HISTORY

Brief History

The word Ngorli ((ŋgↄli)) originates from the Ewe language spoken in Ghana, Togo and Benin; it means there is hope for the future.

Ngorli is a Community Interest Company set up by Rhoda Amezado in 2017 to support children and families in the Watford community. This is achieved through an educational program which takes place every Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at the Christ Church on St Albans Road.

The focus of the program is to provide extra support to children requiring more educational input, with the aim of increasing their confidence and consequently their opportunities moving forward.

For many of the families, English is their second language, and they may have moved to England in recent years; at Ngorli Community Interest Company, we offer the families and their children assistance in understanding the educational system and help with signposting them to other relevant support within the community.

We have an excellent set of tutors who work with groups of children who are organised according to their school year. The tutor’s skill set is matched to the age group they work with, and this weekly interaction with the children builds the bonds to ensure a good understanding of each child’s needs, strengths, and areas that require improvement. They are all DBS checked.

To further develop the children’s reading skills we have a library with a wide variety of books for all ages. We encourage the children to take a book home each week to read either by themselves or with their parents and talk to us about the book when they bring it back the following week.
